No one likes to admit that they might need some help (not even counselors). When things in life get overwhelming or extremely difficult, it is only natural to feel anxious, guarded, and self-protective. These are the times, when you would most benefit from the support of a counselor. Society’s belief that we should always be tough, independent, and solve all our own problems, is a defeating notion. In truth, knowing when to reach out for help and support, is a strength. Asking for help takes courage. Most people who seek out therapy are strong, mentally healthy people who understand that seeking the support of a professional is helpful at certain times in life. They find their life is more satisfying and rewarding because of participating in therapy.
